Conference: A Deep Insight into ICC Arbitration and highlights of ICC 2021 Arbitration Rules

CIArb’s Taiwan Chapter was honoured to co-host with the ICC YAF, iADR®, and the Taipei Bar Association on 9 January 2021 a conference on the topic of “A Deep Insight into ICC Arbitration and highlights of ICC 2021 Arbitration Rules” in Taipei as a series of continuing legal education courses provided to members of the Taipei Bar Association.

The conference was organised into two parts. Dr. Helena Chen FCIArb (Convenor of the Taiwan Chapter) and Alison Chang FCIArb (North Asia Representative of ICC YAF) first provided an overview of the International Chamber of Commerce (“ICC”), including its organizational structure, dispute resolution statistics, and the arbitration proceedings under the ICC Rules. In the second part of the conference, Dr. Helena Chen FCIArb and Alison Chang FCIArb introduced seven key changes in the ICC’s 2021 Arbitration Rules, which are joinder of additional parties after the constitution of arbitral tribunals, extended scope for consolidations, constitution of arbitral tribunal, paperless submission and online arbitration, threshold for expedited arbitrations, new measures to increase transparency, and encouraging the parties to consider settlement. The conference was well-attended by a full house of nearly one hundred attendants and was a great success.
